Das Rheingold is the first series in the ’Der Ring des Nibelungen‘, composed and libretto by Richard Wagner
Alberich, who is from Nibelungs, was spurred by Rhine Daughter's mockery to renounce love. He acquired the magic gold, forging it into a ring that elevated him to the Lord of the World.
Wodan, the ruler of the gods, ordered the giants to build a palace. Giant demanded payment when the castle was built, and Wodan broke his promise. But he promised to replace Freia with the Nibelung Ring.
Wotan came to the Nibelungs and forced Alberich to hand over the ring. Alberich cursed that whoever got the ring would suffer disaster. Everyone fought for the ring.

Das Rheingold is a traditional opera based on Norse mythology
In the communication with the director, I learned that she wants a more modern stage and background, jumping out of the framework of traditional myth opera. Focus more on humanity. Let the whole work have a feeling of collision between old and new. Based on this, I got visual inspiration from some brand exhibitions featuring the coexistence of humanities and technology. Also, The difference in gender treatment between male gods and female gods is very noteworthy. The relationship between gods and dwarves in this opera is similar to "high technology, low life" in the concept of "SI-FI" when analyzed. The same is to discuss the issue of social class and resource occupation. After discussing with the director, we decided to move the environment of the story to the future.
I finally chose the character of Erda to make
As the mother of the earth, she is different from other characters in this opera. So when designing, I hope she is original and powerful. The shape and colour of the skirt also come from the crater and Amazon women. However, the large amount of plastic material made her feel naturally offended by technology. Because we hope to retain a little element of traditional mythology in the show. The materials of the final costumes are earth tones, metallic and transparent materials
